The Travel and Immunization Clinic (TIC) is Kansas City’s highly specialized travel medicine provider for international travelers. Services are also available for routine immunizations such as tetanus boosters, MMR, and flu shots even if you’re not traveling out of the country.

One of the biggest mistakes that travelers often make is searching the internet to self-prescribe their travel health needs. While self education is always encouraged, the web-educated traveler does not have access to, or a complete understanding of the complex medical information that the TIC uses to make accurate and individualized recommendations. The TIC staff evaluates your personal health history for any special needs and takes your specific itinerary into consideration during a pre-travel office visit.

Often travelers will save money by visiting the Travel and Immunization Clinic, rather than asking for vaccinations at their local county health department that may be unnecessary for their travels. We also save you time and frustration by supplying you with all necessary travel related prescriptions such as for malaria prevention, traveler’s diarrhea treatment, or for the prevention of altitude illness. Local health departments usually do not have a physician on staff to write these prescriptions; and family doctors are not as well-trained or experienced with travel illnesses to ensure that your prescriptions are written appropriately.

We serve all kinds of travelers, including:

Individuals and families traveling for leisure

Whether you’re taking your family on an Asian sightseeing trip or celebrating retirement with a safari, it’s important to be mindful of your health when traveling to a new destination. Not every international trip requires vaccinations. Often there are simple prescription medications and travel gear that can help keep you safe, healthy and enjoying your vacation.

Mission trip volunteers

The TIC supports the spirit and efforts of mission trip volunteers. We welcome individuals and groups embarking on mission trips and offer discounted rates to those patients helping others. If your group would like to arrange an office visit, please contact us for more information. We are happy to speak to travelers as a group as you prepare for your mission trip and can then set up individual follow-up appointments when necessary.

Students studying abroad

Learning in a new cultural environment can be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Protect your educational investment by ensuring that you remain healthy during your summer or semester abroad. Start your education at the Travel and Immunization Clinic by learning specific ways to stay safe and healthy while studying in foreign countries.

Corporate vaccination clinics

Major corporations and small businesses alike struggle each winter with loss of productivity when employees become ill with the flu. We offer corporate flu clinics at your location every year to help protect your staff.

Teachers and Dentists

Kansas and Missouri require teachers and dentists to obtain several vaccinations before receiving their licenses. The Travel and Immunization Clinic is a one-stop source to receive the proper vaccinations and documentation so you can achieve certification.

Prospective Parents of International Adoptees

Couples are now traveling to many distant countries in search of infants and children who need an adoptive family. These parents-to-be must make sure that their health is not compromised by foreign illnesses while preparing to bring home their new child.

Immigrants seeking citizenship

Those foreign citizens entering our country for extended periods usually require proof of receiving many immunizations that U.S. citizens received during infancy and childhood. Our staff can ensure that these individuals receive the needed vaccinations and can provide the necessary documentation to certify this.
